Cam

Cam

Director, Head Coach

Cam is one of the leading coaches in New Zealand; his coaching career has spanned over thirty years, producing more than 70 national champions, numerous Oceania champions, three Olympians (including Alexis Pritchard and David Tua) and is currently the NZ National Womens Coach. He’s also the real brains behind the Wreck Room (ed note: disputed). Cam is the only boxing coach in Australasia with 3-star AIBA certification. Beyond his obvious technical knowledge, Cam’s coaching ability is defined by his skill in reading people and assessing their strengths and weaknesses.

Alexis

Alexis

Director, Physiotherapist

Lex stumbled upon boxing relatively late in life at the age of 19; fast forward nearly a decade and she was taking home the first Olympic boxing bout win for NZ in sixteen years. Currently working toward the Rio Olympics in 2016, Lex is also the #1 ranked boxer nationally in her weight class and has been for a total of ten years. She’s a director at Pritchard Cooper Physio & Foot Clinic and acts as our in-house physio at Wreck Room. Her passion for being active is rooted in the fact that it makes her feel great about herself, and she wants to help others find that feeling for themselves.

Api

Api

Senior Instructor, PT

Api brings a wealth of experience to Wreck Room, courtesy of over five years working in the fitness industry as a gym manager, personal trainer, group instructor, and gym rat himself, plus his continuing study of fitness and conditioning at AUT. He spent seven years playing professional rugby in Japan before returning to home to pursue his love of learning and empowering people to improve their fitness, health, and outlook. The biggest reward for him, as a trainer, is equipping other people with the tools and motivation to make positive changes to their lifestyle.

Penny

Penny

Office Executive

Penny is another one of the friendly faces at the front door, keeping tabs on the Wreck Room office and making sure all of you get the most out of our awesome facility. Penny is also an internationally accomplished trampoline athlete! She’s won a number of international medals including the Pacific Rim Championships, the Indo Pacific Championships, and the World Championships in England. That is a LOT of bouncing. She’s also great at reminding you not to park illegally on our street, and a wonderful host at the gym who can answer any questions you have.

Laura

Laura

Instructor, PT

Since her start in 2006, Laura has amassed an impressive amateur record both here and abroad: winning the NZ Light-Welterweight title in 2011, a bronze in Serbia’s Sombor Cup, and placing 11th at the 2012 Women’s World Boxing Championships. She is currently studying Optometry, but teaching boxing, which she’s been doing nearly as long as she’s been training, remains an important part of her life. Laura has a strong grounding in technique and training method and the chops to break it down for beginners and more experienced students alike.

Joshua

Joshua

Instructor, PT

Josh took up amateur boxing at a young age, and by 17 had a NZ Golden Gloves championship and a #1 NZ ranking for his weight class under his belt. He has eight years of training under Olympic, Commonwealth and professional -level boxers and coaches behind him. In addition to his fight experience, he’s spent the last four years devoted to personal training. Josh brings knowledge and attitude far beyond his years to Wreck Room, whether you want to train for a corporate fight, up your technical skill, or simply improve your strength and conditioning.

Sarin

Sarin

Instructor

Sarin has a background in collegiate swimming, equestrian, and since 2009, boxing. Her entry into fight sports started with Cam’s gym on Quay Street, where she fell in love with the technical aspects of boxing training – the result of her appetite for constant challenge. She will never give you a session she can’t do herself, and has been known to lead a class while actively participating in it. The gym is not Sarin’s natural habitat, but she’s worked hard over the years to prioritise training and integrate it into her life and is passionate about encouraging others to do the same.

Nikki

Nikki

Instructor

Nikki is one of the friendly faces at the front door, managing the Wreck Room office, keeping Cam in line and making sure all of you are getting the most out of our fine facility. She is a wealth of knowledge for everything Wreck Room! Don’t mess with her though – fight sports are her thing. She has a decade of karate behind her, as well as three years of boxing training under Cam, and dabbles in Muay Thai and various team sports. In addition to her work behind the scenes, Nikki also maintains a roster of personal training clients and is available for one-on-ones.

Francis

Francis

Instructor, PT

Francis has a strong background in boxing, kickboxing, basketball, crossfit, and circuit training, but his motivation to become a personal trainer came from an unlikely place: studying photography and visual arts. The sedentary nature of that work – spending long hours sitting at a desk – made him realise he needed a change. Francis made the choice to study personal training, to continue guiding and encouraging others in reaching their athletic goals. As a personal trainer, he strives to provide his clients with the capabilities to exceed their individual goals both inside and outside the gym.

Sarah

Sarah

Instructor, PT

Sarah is a talented all-rounder,  with over 8 years of coaching and training experience and 3 years as a personal trainer. She works with boxers, Muay Thai fighters, kids 5-10 years old, athletes, teams, and individuals starting their fitness journey. A skilled boxer who has competed both pro and amateur over the last five years, she is currently coaching a number of novices interested in fighting.

Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, Sarah is equipped with the knowledge and people skills to help you develop your strengths and improve your weaknesses.

Thelo

Thelo

Corporate Outreach, PT

Thelo was introduced to Boxing in 2008 by Cam Todd. At that point he was 125kgs and living the classic corporate life of high stress, long hours and bad nutrition. In the space of six months he dropped 25kgs and began a passionate love affair with boxing and functional training.

Late last year Thelo made the bold decision to leave his cushy job at Westpac and pursue working full-time in the fitness industry. As Corporate Outreach, his focus is on reaching out to corporate office workers with one on one programmes and group business packages.

Karen

Karen

Sports Massage Therapist

Karen brings nearly 20 years of experience in massage therapy to the Wreck Room. She began her career working in a physiotherapy practice in 1997, and continues to specialise in taking care of athletes and active bodies. She has worked with teams in the NZRL and Australian NRL, plus touch, basketball, netball, and cycling teams.

Karen uses massage therapy to reduce muscle soreness, tension and stress, both physically and mentally. Her goal is to make massage a beneficial and affordable part of all her clients’ wellness programmes.
